To our Friends, Artists and Art Lovers – welcome to the very first edition of your newborn Shotgun Studios Newsletter! Look down the barrel of this smoking gun for the inside scoop on hot news, events and all things ART coming out of the Gallery here in Acton Central.
The Studio has had a busy last few months with artist shows and events, and the activity is set to ramp up further thanks to two new firestarters on staff - Sophie Cunningham and Isaac Trebilco. Both practicing artists in their own right, they will be taking over managing the day-to-day of the Gallery, as well as organising future events and openings. The Shotgun team have some big plans in the works, including pop-up openings around London and the creation of an Acton street art festival! Feel free to drop by and say hello - they’ve got lovable bendy ears for all your ideas and/or feedback.
We’ve had an extremely successful first run of exhibitions and events to put our Gallery on the map!
Back in March, James John Wood presented his series Ink, Skin & Bosch - a modern rendition of The Seven Deadly Sins.
April saw Isaac Trebilco open his first UK solo show Whanaungatanga, presenting paintings and imagery that explore Māori culture. We were lucky enough to have Ngāti Rānana London Māori Club join us for the opening where they stopped traffic with their performance.
In May Linda Lieberman launched UNDERCURRENT, showcasing her ongoing series 'Ocean', which explores themes of ecology, pollution and the sea. For this show we surprised Churchfield Road with a large waterfall feature from our shop front – gaining a lot of attention and creating joy!
Finally, June – July saw the most recent launch of ECHO CHAMBER by Conrad Armstrong, showcasing new works made through melting plastic and burnt painted figures. We were delighted to welcome British contemporary painter and sculptor Maggi Hambling CBE to the Gallery for Conrad’s open evening.
We warmly invite you to the launch night of our new exhibition STRANGE LANDS on Friday 15thSeptember, 6:00pm – 10:00pm. This is a group exhibition of emerging and established artists who use photography to explore elements of surrealism in their art works. Free entry for all to view the work and meet the artists. There will be a bar, DJ, live music and other surprises!
We are also pleased to announce that we are now hosting Life Drawing Classes! These classes are suitable for beginners and materials are provided. These evening events will run from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Tickets are £7 and spaces are limited so book quickly to avoid disappointment.
We will see the return of SHOTGUN NIGHTS in late September - an evening of musical talent showcasing a vibrant mix of contemporary performance in our Gallery space.
